About the Department
The Department of Commerce is a major department in the college with more enrolment of students. The department came into existence with three years undergraduate degree course in 1972. It has completed 48 years of existence by imparting commerce education. The department since its inception has maintained a high academic profile by accommodating the increasing strength of students for commerce discipline over the years. By recognizing the needs of students for higher education, the department has started two years of post-graduate degree courses in the specialized subjects of Advanced Cost Accounting and Cost Systems in 2008 and Business Administration in 2015. In the year 2018-19, the Department of Commerce has commenced a recognized Research Centre (Ph.D. in Commerce) and currently, 6 full-time research scholars are doing research leading to Ph.D. Degree. The Department of Commerce is imparting education with the specialization of Cost and Works Accounting to undergraduate students and Advanced Cost Accounting and Cost Systems and Business administration to post-graduate students. It also is providing Research Supervision in the subjects of Business Administration, Marketing, Banking, and Finance, and Business laws and Taxation to research scholars to lead to their Ph.D. Degree. In addition, the department is envisaging and striving to enhance employability and strengthen the personality of graduate and post-graduate students. The Department has a commerce lab with 15 computers on LAN for its exclusive use. The department has conducted an Add-on course on Direct Taxes consisting of 50 Clock hours for third-year commerce students in the year 2018-19. In the Year 2019-20 CBCS pattern has introduced by SPPU, Pune for the B.Com program.

Teaching Methods Adopted
Following teaching methods are adopted by the faculties of Department of Commerce.
Lecture Method:
In the Commerce stream some subjects are practical, numerical based and problem solving oriented such as Accountancy, Mathematic and Statistics, Cost and Works Accounting, Auditing and Taxation and some subjects are theory based such as Business Management, Business Communication etc. For teaching these subjects lecture method is used. All the teachers of department use this method for effective curriculum delivery.
Demonstration Method:
Demonstration Method allows students to personally relate to the presented information in subjects like Accountancy, Mathematic and Statistics, Cost and Works Accounting, Auditing and Taxation. Demonstrations help to raise student interest and reinforce memory retention because they provide connections between facts and real-world applications of those facts.
Classroom discussion:
A discussion takes place in a classroom which is facilitated by a teacher or by a student hence this method is used for theoretical subjects such as Business Communication, Business Management, Business Administration etc.
Experiential Learning:
University had introduced practical for some subjects like Cost and Works Accounting, Auditing and Taxation, Banking and Finance, Business Communication, Business Administration. For fulfilling these practical field trips and Industrial Visits are arranged.
Collaborative method in teaching:
Our Department makes MOU with other Institutions which helps the students to get industrial practical and theoretical knowledge. Which helps the students to know the recent trends in Corporate Sectors? It helps to bridge gap between Education and Industry.
Google Classroom (Learning Management System)
Google classroom facility is used by the faculty. Students are enrolled in the Google classroom. Teaching-learning material and PowerPoint presentations are shared through Google classroom. Students also share their work through this classroom.
